The Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness 90-hour Teacher Training is designed to prepare yoga teachers from all traditions to teach quality, evidence-based, and inspiring prenatal and postnatal yoga classes. The Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness Teacher Training also benefits those working one-on-one with mothers-to-be. Doulas, midwives, and pregnant mothers are warmly welcome.
The Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness 90-hour Teacher Training is based upon a weekend training format. We gather on five selected Saturdays/Sundays from 1-7pm and meet over the course of 3 months.

The Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness 90-hour Teacher Training covers the following topics:
Anatomy/physiology of pregnancy, fetal development, optimal fetal positioning, stages/anatomy of birth/labor, drawing upon yoga to help alleviate common discomforts of pregnancy, sequencing a prenatal and postnatal yoga class, modifications and an understanding of contraindications, sounding, chanting, and breath work, releasing and working with fear, cultivating courage/support, nutritional/herbal support for labor, birth, and the postpartum period, strengthening/toning/releasing the pelvic floor, yoga for opening and releasing in birth, restorative yoga practice in pregnancy, appropriate use of touch when teaching, yoga philosophy as it relates to pregnancy, birth, and the subtle/emotional body, nurturing secure attachment of mother/child, visualization and meditation, self care and mindfulness practices, yoga nidra, a focus on the archetype of “The Mother” in teaching/practice, pregnancy rituals and mother blessings, breastfeeding and bonding, ethics of teaching prenatal yoga, modifying a regular yoga class for a pregnant student, and marketing one’s teaching/practice.
*Tuition includes a teacher’s manual in binder form, free subscription to the Birthing Mama® online pregnancy program, and a copy of Amy Wright Glenn’s first book, Birth, Breath, and Death. Additional required readings to be purchased separately.
To receive a certification, participants need to:
Attend all training sessions, by the end of the training observe and/or take 10 prenatal or postnatal yoga classes, write up a one page reflection on all of classes observed/taken, and practice teach 3 classes to at least one student (ideally the student is pregnant and/or a new mother), and turn in a written class plan as well as comments on each of the practice teach classes.
In order to teach public prenatal or postnatal yoga classes, one most have a 200-hour certificate from any yoga tradition.
Created by Corinne Andrews, director of Yoga Center Amherst, Birthing Mama® is a comprehensive, holistic, evidence-based approach to supporting women and their families through the sacred time of pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum period. Birthing Mama® is rooted in a clear understanding of yoga principles and teachings and remains respectful and open to practitioners of all spiritual/religious traditions. Beginning in 2016, Amy Wright Glenn and Corinne Andrews collaborated to create the Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness 30-hour Birth Professionals Online Workshop which draws upon the Birthing Mama® online pregnancy program covering six components of Prenatal Yoga and Wellness from weeks 14-42 of pregnancy. The components are: prenatal yoga videos, developmental benchmarks, nutritional guidance, inspiring articles, self-care suggestions, and creative/mindfulness activities.
This summer 2017 training is the first time the Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness 90-hour Teacher Training is being offered in Florida.
Amy Wright Glenn is the lead teacher for the Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness 90-hour Teacher Training. She earned her MA in Religion and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Amy is a Kripalu Yoga teacher, Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness Teacher Trainer, (CD)DONA birth doula, hospital chaplain, and founder of the Institute for the Study of Birth, Breath, and Death. Amy is a regular contributor to PhillyVoice and is the author of Birth, Breath, and Death: Meditations on Motherhood, Chaplaincy, and Life as a Doula and the forthcoming book “Holding Space: On Loving, Dying, and Letting Go” published by Parallax Press and available this fall.
Amy will invite guest teachers to join the training including local midwives. Amy also will be joined by guest teacher Meridith Abrahms, Founder of Blossoming Lotus Yoga and a certified prenatal yoga and Mommy & Me Yoga teacher based in Boca Raton, Florida. Meridith will guide students through 15-hours of the training based upon the Birthing Mama® philosophy and will offer assistance in welcoming students to observe her classes and offer feedback for practice teach sessions.
The Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness 90-hour Teacher Training costs $2000. Those who register early can receive a $300 discount and pay $1700.
